Krainytsia — Ukrainian Cultural Heritage in a Contemporary Interior

Krainytsia is a collection of textile décor by Lanavitta, created based on the traditions of different regions of Ukraine. It is Ukrainian décor in which Ukrainian ornaments and motifs of traditional weaving and carpet-making have been given new life in contemporary spaces. The 11 Krainytsias represent 11 Ukrainian regions — from the Carpathians to the Azov Region. This is Ukrainian textile art that helps create a Ukrainian style in the interior and combine cultural heritage with contemporary aesthetics.

How Krainytsia Was Born

The project is based on research into Ukrainian textile traditions. We explored the heritage of Ukrainian weaving and carpet-making, studying the ornaments, colours, compositions and symbolism characteristic of different regions of Ukraine.

We did not copy traditional items but created a contemporary interpretation of them. This is how Ukrainian traditions were reimagined: characteristic elements of each region were adapted to contemporary interiors and reproduced using modern equipment. In this way, traditional Ukrainian ornament continues to live not only in museums, but also in our homes.

Each Krainytsia is dedicated to a particular region and its textile heritage.

Carpathians — ornaments of the Carpathians inspired by the traditions of lizhnyk weaving and Hutsul textile art.

Halychyna — Hlyniany carpet-making, with its geometric motifs, stylised flowers and restrained graphic character.

Bukovyna — Bukovynian carpet-making, known for rich colours, botanical motifs and decorative richness.

Podillia — Podillian carpet-making featuring diamonds, flowerpots and the Tree of Life symbol.

Polissia — restrained geometry and natural colours characteristic of the traditional carpet-making of Polissia.

Slobozhanshchyna — Krolevets weaving and the distinctive red-and-white colour palette of perebornyi woven towels.

Dnipro Region — Reshetylivka carpet-making, with lush botanical compositions, flowers, birds and the Tree of Life.

Black Sea Region — a combination of Ukrainian, Moldovan and Balkan textile traditions.

Azov Region — distinctive textile traditions of the Greeks of Ukraine, with geometric ornaments and rhythmic stripes.

Crimea — Crimean Tatar carpet-making, characterised by geometric compositions, symmetry and symbolic motifs.

Zaporizhzhia — artistic weaving traditions of Zaporizhzhia, combining geometric and botanical ornaments.

In this way, the traditions of each Ukrainian region become part of contemporary life.

Not a Museum Exhibit, but a Culture That Lives Today

Krainytsia is our way of speaking about Ukrainian culture through design and everyday objects. We believe that Ukraine’s cultural heritage should not only be preserved but also continue to evolve.

For us, contemporary Ukrainian design is therefore not a reproduction of the past, but an opportunity to give it new life. Ukrainian ornament can become part of a contemporary apartment, country house, hotel or restaurant. Ukrainian motifs in interiors can be stylish, relevant and organically integrated into modern spaces.

Krainytsia in a Contemporary Interior

Krainytsia is designed to fit easily into a variety of spaces. In a living room, it can become an accent runner or a decorative table runner. In a bedroom, it can be placed across the bed as a decorative runner, adding character to the space.

It is a decorative textile runner that serves not only a functional purpose but also works as textile décor. Krainytsia can complement bedroom décor, living room décor or become part of the overall home décor.

It can be used as ethnic-inspired décor in a contemporary space, paired with natural materials, minimalist furniture and other elements of Ukrainian-style décor.

Krainytsia as a Gift That Tells the Story of Ukraine

Krainytsia is more than a home accessory — it is a gift with its own story. Everyone can choose a region that has personal meaning: their birthplace, family roots, favourite region or a place connected with important memories.

That is why Krainytsia can become a special Ukrainian souvenir, a souvenir from Ukraine or a gift for someone who values Ukrainian culture. It is a gift for a foreigner that offers a way to tell the story of Ukraine through design, as well as a gift for Ukrainians living abroad that helps them maintain a connection with home.

Krainytsia is suitable as a Ukrainian-style gift, a gift from Ukraine, a Ukrainian gift or a housewarming present. It is an original Ukrainian gift that combines beauty, functionality and cultural meaning.

Krainytsia for HoReCa and Commercial Spaces

Krainytsia helps create a distinctive atmosphere in hotels, restaurants, cafés, country houses and other HoReCa spaces. As an element of Ukrainian décor and textile décor, it adds a local character to an interior and helps integrate Ukrainian style without excessive ethnic detailing.

Krainytsia can become an accent on tables, in relaxation areas or in hotel bedrooms, combining contemporary Ukrainian design, functionality and the living cultural heritage of Ukraine.

Krainytsia — a Contemporary Ukrainian Protective Symbol

Each Krainytsia has not only its own ornament but also symbolic meaning embedded within it. In traditional culture, geometric and botanical motifs, the Tree of Life, diamonds, birds, flowers and other elements could symbolise prosperity, family unity, continuity of generations, protection and vitality.

That is why Krainytsia is more than Ukrainian décor — it is a contemporary Ukrainian protective symbol for the home. We have reinterpreted traditional symbols so that they can continue to live in contemporary interiors while preserving their connection to Ukrainian traditions and the cultural heritage of Ukraine.
